The Caldwell Police Department closed off Linden Street between Georgia and Indiana avenues Wednesday afternoon for an “active police scene,” the department said on social media.

A suspect was inside his home and refusing to come out, spokesperson Char Jackson said in an email.

“We want to question him about an earlier complaint regarding an aggravated assault he may have been involved in earlier today,” Jackson said.

Details of the alleged assault were not clear, and it also was not clear whether police had an arrest warrant or were still investigating.
