‘An abundance of caution’: Here’s why an Idaho school just canceled homecoming parade
The Caldwell School District has canceled Friday’s Caldwell High School homecoming parade because of “possible threats,” according to a letter sent out to families and the media.
“Although there is no evidence that these threats are credible, this decision is based in an abundance of caution,” the Caldwell letter said. “We are working closely with the Caldwell Police Department as we continue to investigate this threat.”
The football game against Vallivue is still scheduled, Spokesperson Jessica Watts said, but the homecoming dance is being rescheduled. The school had never canceled the parade before, Watts said in an email Friday.
School was still in session Friday, but parents or guardians could excuse their child from class, the letter said.
“We look forward to celebrating Caldwell High School’s Annual Homecoming Parade at a later date,” the letter stated.
The district is not alone in Southwest Idaho this week. On Wednesday, Boise police detained a Boise School District student after a report that the student made threats to two schools, according to Statesman reporting. By Thursday, the schools had determined there was no credible threat in Boise.
