The Nampa Police Department’s bomb unit responded Thursday to the city’s St. Luke’s hospital because of a “suspicious package” in the parking lot, police said on social media.

Patient flow at St. Luke’s was not affected, police said. Police first arrived at around noon, spokesperson Carmen Boeger said.

By about 2:45 p.m., the bomb unit determined that the package was not an explosive device. Traffic on Midland Boulevard, which was restricted for a period of time, was back to normal, Boeger said.

The area of the parking lot where the package was found, at the far end near Midland, remained closed while police stayed at the scene. Investigators would follow up on the incident, according to Boeger.

“For approximately 30 minutes ambulances were diverted from the Nampa Emergency Department. Out of an abundance of caution, staff were asked to briefly shelter in place,” St. Luke’s spokesperson Christine Myron said. “Patient care was minimally impacted before law enforcement and St. Luke’s Security provided an all-clear message, allowing normal operations to resume.”
