Nampa’s five-member City Council has an open seat because of a sudden resignation.

Council Member Jacob Bower submitted his resignation letter Thursday, effective immediately, according to a news release from the city.

“My family has made the difficult decision to move outside of city limits, and today I announce my resignation of Nampa City Council Seat 6, effective immediately,” Bower said in his resignation letter. “I have accepted a coaching position at Star Middle School, and we have made a family decision for our boys and family to be closer to where they will be going to school.”

Bower was elected to a four-year term in 2019 and served three years.

“We greatly appreciate the time and consideration he gave to Nampa,” Mayor Debbie Kling said in a news release. “I wish him and his family the very best in their new home.”

The next steps regarding the seat’s vacancy will be discussed at the Monday council meeting. Bower will be honored at that meeting, the news release said.
