Vehicle strikes man on electric bike in Caldwell, sends cyclist to hospital

A vehicle hit an electric bike in Caldwell on Monday afternoon, sending a 51-year-old cyclist to the hospital and blocking an Interstate 84 on-ramp for over two hours.

At 3:52 p.m. Monday, a 43-year-old Caldwell man was driving a 2007 Mazda 3 on Franklin Road when he struck a male bicyclist who was traveling along the east side of Franklin, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.

The incident occurred at the Franklin Road overpass near the eastbound on-ramp to I-84. The bicyclist was traveling across the intersection when the Mazda struck him, state police said.

The cyclist, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was taken to a local hospital. Police said the driver was wearing a seat belt.

The Idaho Statesman reached out to ISP spokesperson Aaron Snell for additional information.

The crash blocked the eastbound I-84 on-ramp. State police are still investigating the incident.
