Teenager dies in Nampa crash after failing to stop at intersection, police say

A 19-year-old Nampa man died Monday after Idaho State Police say he failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a pickup.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ustick Road and 11th Avenue North, north of Nampa, in Canyon County.

Jacob J. Wright was driving a 2004 Hyundai Elantra south on 11th Avenue while Ignacio B. Ortiz, 57, of Nampa, was driving a 1999 Ford pickup, pulling a trailer west on Ustick Road.

Wright failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with the pickup, according to Idaho State Police. Wright died of his injuries at the scene. Next of kin have been notified.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
