Woman dies in crash outside Middleton, 4 others injured

A woman died Monday morning in an apparent head-on crash on Old U.S. Route 30 at Goodson, northwest of Middleton, Idaho State Police say.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m., when Margarita Jimenez Hernandez, 44, of Middleton, was northbound on Old U.S. 30 in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. Meanwhile, James Leedom, 40, of Caldwell, was driving south in a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Another vehicle was stopped in the northbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Goodson Lane. According to ISP, Jimenez Hernandez drove around that vehicle’s left side, crossed the center lane and collided with Leedom’s Jeep.

Middleton resident Ana Ayala Andrade, 67, a passenger of Jimenez Hernandez, died at the scene, ISP said.

A ground ambulance took Jimenez Hernandez and her two other passengers, Catalina Ayala Arizmendi, 56, and Nacimento Jimenez, 67, to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Leedom was flown to medical care by an air ambulance.

ISP is still investigating the crash.
