Several homes evacuated after car crashes into Nampa house
Several homes were evacuated early Tuesday morning after a car crashed into a house in the 200 block of East Amity Avenue in Nampa, possibly causing a gas leak, according to a Nampa Police Department press release.
The crash was reported around 4 a.m. Police said a maroon 1998 Chevy Cavalier crashed into the kitchen of a house, breaking a natural gas line and making it unable to be turned off. Police evacuated the residents of the home, who were not injured by the crash, and residents of several surrounding homes.
Officials with Intermountain Gas and Idaho Power had stopped the leak by 8 a.m., and residents were returning to their homes. East Amity Avenue and East Colorado Avenue remained closed between Holly Street and 12th Avenue Road. It was not immediately clear what time those roads would reopen.
The driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old David Valdez, of Greenleaf, was transported to a hospital along with a 28-year-old female passenger for natural gas exposure. Neither Valdez nor the passenger were injured in the crash. Charges are pending as police continue to investigate the crash.
