Boise Airport hosts mock plane crash for local agencies’ training

The Boise Airport hosted a mock plane crash as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s mandated full scale emergency exercise.

About 20 agencies, including Boise Police Department, Boise Fire Department and Ada County Paramedics, participated in the exercise with help from about 100 volunteers who, among other things, acted as plane crash victims.

The exercise is required every three years. This year the scenario was a Boeing 727 plane crash on a runway with construction equipment. Personnel had to put out a fire, unload passengers, document casualties and transport “injured” passengers.

The mock disaster was scheduled to take place from 11 to 3 p.m. Wednesday on a inactive Boise Airport runway off of Gowen Road. Rebecca Hupp, Boise Airport director, called the exercise a success.
