Boise demolishes Fire Station 4, prepares to build replacement

Crews knocked down the last of Fire Station 4 on Ustick in Boise Monday morning. Construction will begin on a new, expanded station on the site. Voters approved a $17 million bond in June of 2014 with a 78 percent majority. The bond will pay to remodel for stations and build a training facility for fire fighters.

Fire Chief Dennis Doan said it will take about a year to rebuild Fire Station 4. It will be home to an engine, a truck and a battalion chief when it’s complete.

The bond that passed is a “no cost bond” for taxpayers, Doan said. The city will make bond payments through its general fund.

“Taxpayers will not see an increase in their tax bills,” said Doan.
