UPDATE: Human remains in Boise Foothills belonged to woman

The Ada County Coroner sent out a news release Wednesday with one new piece of information on the remains found Saturday: They belong to the body of an adult female.

Information about the person’s approximate age, cause of death or possible identity is still unavailable.

“No further information is expected to be released this week,” Coroner Dotti Owens said in the news release.

A woman walking her dogs found the remains Saturday along Sunset Peak Road, about a mile past the U.S. Bureau of Land Management gate. The road has been closed to car traffic since last fall.

“It appears as if the remains have been there for an extended period of time,” the Ada County Sheriff’s Office reports, noting that detectives and crime scene investigators finished searching the area for evidence by Tuesday afternoon. The remains are being examined at the coroner’s office.
