UPDATE: No evacuation after ammonia leak at Boise Fed Ex Freight

An ammonia link at a Fed Ex Freight service center on North Cloverdale Road late Tuesday morning took hours to resolve while officials waited for a part to fix the leaking cylinder, Boise Fire Department and Fed Ex officials said.

There were no injuries, and initial BFD reports that the building was evacuated were incorrect, fire department spokeswoman Tammy Barry said.

The leaking ammonia cylinder was part of a shipment in a trailer, Fed Ex Freight corporate spokesman Ron Mears said, and the trailer was pulled away from the dock and moved to a more isolated location.

"An evacuation didn't occur and wasn't deemed necessary," Mears said.

The incident, in an industrial area in the 100 block of North Cloverdale, was reported at 10:40 a.m. Cloverdale was briefly closed between Franklin Road and Executive Drive, but the Ada County Highway District reports it was reopened by 11:40 a.m. By late afternoon the fire department was still monitoring the situation but said there were no safety concerns.
