Clegg, McLean step into Boise council leadership
Boise Mayor David Bieter called on the city to build a new main library branch, fix homelessness and transform public transportation in the years to come Tuesday at the City Council's first meeting of 2016.
Bieter made his remarks shortly after becoming the first mayor in Boise history to be sworn in to four four-year terms.
A few minutes later, council members chose Elaine Clegg, who's also entering her fourth term, to be their president and Lauren McLean, elected in November to her second term, to serve as Council Pro Tem, the body's second ranking member.
Former City Council President Maryanne Jordan had served in that role since 2009. She was also president of the council between 2005 and 2006. Jordan was appointed to the Idaho Senate last year. She plans to serve out her council term, which ends in two years.
