With a fire fresh in Foothills, Ada County rolls out new emergency alert system

With fire season in full swing and the Claremont Fire raging into Boise County from the Foothills above the Military Reserve, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office has debuted a new emergency alert system.

Ada Alert will give residents a fast way to receive critical information in emergency situations, such as wildfires, severe weather, power outages and gas leaks.

“Wildfires and emergencies don’t wait, and neither should the information that keeps our community safe,” Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said in a news release. “Ada Alert gets critical alerts to residents faster, in the way that works best for them, so they can protect themselves, their families, and their homes without delay.”

Ada Alert replaces the previous system, CodeRed, after that software company experienced a data breach, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Registration for Ada Alert is available at adaalert.genasys.com/portal. Click on the “click here to register” link to start an account. Residents may choose to receive text or email alerts, or both.

CodeRed will remain active through the end of July — and sent out alerts on Monday’s Claremont Fire — but residents are encouraged to sign up for Ada Alert now, according to sheriff’s officials.
