A child died in a Boise hospital over the weekend after an accident at an Idaho hot springs.

Everett Newby, 12, of Boise, was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the intensive care unit of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Boise, according to a Wednesday news release from the Ada County Coroner’s Office.

Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful after Newby was “submerged in water for a period of time” at Trinity Hot Springs in Featherville on Saturday, the release said. Trinity Hot Springs is a commercial Idaho hot springs attached to a hotel and campground in Elmore County, less than two hours east of Boise.

The coroner’s office listed Newby’s cause and manner of death as “pending.”

Family friend Rick Beeler created a GoFundMe to raise money for Newby’s parents, Cody and Marbara Newby, to cover medical bills and funeral costs.

Beeler said Newby was flown by helicopter to the hospital “after a heartbreaking accident at Trinity Hot Springs, where he drowned.”

“The loss of Everett has left their family devastated, and they are now confronted with the emotional and financial challenges that come with such a sudden loss,” Beeler said. “... The costs are overwhelming, and your support can help ease some of the burden during this incredibly difficult time.”
