Update: The Boise Police Department reopened Curtis Road between Franklin Road and Emerald Street at about 6:20 p.m., and power was restored.

Original Story:

The Boise Police Department has closed off a portion of Curtis Road in the Morris Hill area of the Bench after a power line came down Tuesday afternoon.

The road was closed in both directions between Franklin Road and Emerald Street, and traffic lights were affected between Franklin and Fairview Avenue, police said in a social media post.

According to Idaho Power, an outage began just after 5 p.m. when the line went down for an unknown reason. Boise police asked people to avoid the area as both Boise Fire Department and Idaho Power crews worked to resolve the problem.

Police said there was no estimate yet on when the road would reopen.

The Idaho Power outage map on its website showed that more than 1,000 customers were immediately affected in the resulting outage. Power was restored for most by 6 p.m., company spokesperson Erica Shiflet told the Idaho Statesman in an email.

Shiflet stated that anyone who finds a downed power line should assume it is energized and stay as far away as possible — at least 100 feet — and call Idaho Power at 208-388-2323, or call 911.
