A man crashed his vehicle into one of the ponds at Esther Simplot Park in Boise on Wednesday morning and attempted to “hide in the water” with a knife, witnesses told the police.

Just after 9:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a reckless driver going on canal banks, the Greenbelt — which is a biking and walking path — and through fences, Boise Police Department spokesperson Haley Williams said in an email.

Officers talked the man into coming out of the water, Williams said. Boise Fire Department members and Ada County paramedics treated the man, who was then taken to a local hospital.

The Boise Fire Dive Team helped get the vehicle out of the water.

The investigation is ongoing, Williams said, and no charges have yet been filed.
