A car crashed into the Grove Hotel this year. Who’s paying for repairs, and how much?
Two months ago, a car crashed into the River Sculpture on the side of the Grove Hotel in downtown Boise, leaving behind visible damage and some strewn debris.
There were no injuries and there was no “significant structural damage” to the building, according to previous Statesman reporting. Two cars collided near Front Street and Capitol Boulevard. One vehicle went over the curb and into the hotel’s side at the bottom of the sculpture.
Now, contractors believe the art can be repaired by mid-December, according to Boise Department of Arts & History communications manager Jennifer Yribar.
The cost to repair it will be a little more than $3,500, but it will be covered by the driver’s insurance, Yribar said.
The sculpture has been hit by a car before. In 2016, a Meridian woman hit a taxi and then the piece, according to previous Statesman reporting. That accident happened after a $270,000 restoration of the artwork.
