What was that hail, rain and thunder that just passed through Boise? What we know

Thunder rumbled through parts of the Treasure Valley on Saturday afternoon, with rain and pea-sized hail falling to the ground.

Meteorologists weren’t expecting the lightning, thinking instead it would be heavier showers, said National Weather Service Boise meteorologist Bill Wojcik.

“The heating we got today, the sunshine … you need heat to get storms developing,” Wojcik said.

The impact of the sun made for an isolated weather impact. The storms weren’t even happening in the mountains, just an area from Boise to Meridian.

“It’s kind of like a broken line, meaning there’s a storm here and then maybe a mile north, there’s nothing,” Wojcik said.

The storms should leave the area by 3 p.m.

“When thunder roars, head indoors,” Wojcik said.
