Crews were able to contain Boise’s newest wildfire in about six hours Wednesday night, and before noon on Thursday they had it extinguished.

The Leeds Fire started at 2 p.m. Wednesday southwest of the Diversion Dam on the Boise River, about half a mile off East Plexi Court, according to wildfire alert nonprofit Watch Duty.

It grew to 354 acres by about 8 p.m., according to the Bureau of Land Management.

Crews fully contained the fire — meaning a line was created around its perimeter to stop the spread — by 8:17 p.m. Wednesday, according to Watch Duty. BLM said they had the fire safely out by 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

“Crews will remain on scene, mopping up and securing containment lines,” the agency said on social media.

The Leeds Fire threatened the 174-lot Sunny Ridge subdivision in between Lucky Peak and Interstate 84. A structure protection team was set up in the neighborhood but no evacuation orders were issued, according to Bureau of Land Management spokesperson Chad Cline.

Only a shed and barn were damaged, Cline said.

Cline said the Leeds Fire was still under investigation but appeared to be human-caused.

Personnel and equipment from the Bureau of Land Management, Boise Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service and Eagle Fire Department were assisting, including three dozers, two water tenders and four fire engines.
