A wildfire that burned close to Boise homes Thursday morning was fully contained but still smoking Friday, prompting Bureau of Land Management officials to ask the public not to report smoke sightings in the area.

The Plex Fire started Wednesday evening near South Eyele Avenue and East Plexi Court, just west of Lucky Peak State Park. By the time firefighters contained it Thursday afternoon, it had grown to 540 acres, according to the Bureau of Land Management’s Facebook fire information page.

Officials said in a news release Friday that pockets of smoke are still emanating from the burn area but are being monitored by firefighters until the fire is fully controlled, meaning all unburned fuel has been removed and hot spots have been addressed.

The Bureau of Land Management asked people to avoid calling emergency services to report any smoke. They said fire crews have the situation fully monitored, and additional calls could tie up dispatch lines.

An estimate on the agency’s Idaho Fire Info website said it cost $100,000 to fight the fire.
