The Boise Fire Department had a hoot with nighttime chimney rescue. Here’s what we know
Sometimes firefighters rush headfirst into blazes, putting out fires and pulling people to safety.
Other times, rescues might involve something furry or taking flight.
On Thursday, the crew of Boise Fire Engine 10 had to rescue an owl trapped in someone’s fireplace. The public service call came in at 9:22 pm for a residence in the 5100 block of N Farrow St, Boise Fire Spokesperson Lynsey Amundson told the Statesman.
The owl flew down a chimney and got stuck, setting off some Harry Potter jokes in the comments on the Boise Fire Department’s Facebook post about the incident.
“Did it have my letter to Hogwarts?” one commenter asked.
“Did the owl tell you how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?” another joked.
In all seriousness, the rescue was successful. Photos showed firefighters observing the fireplace and holding the owl with gloves after it was removed.
“No matter when or where, we’re owl-ways here for you when you need us, Boise,” the department wrote on social media.
It’s unclear what type of owl it was or where the owl ended up. Boise Fire did not immediately return a request for comment.
