One child killed, five hospitalized after SUV crashes near Mountain Home. What happened?

One child was killed and five people were hospitalized after a tire blew out on an SUV just west of Mountain Home on Saturday afternoon.

A 45-year-old man from Filer was driving a Ford Expedition west on Interstate 84 “when the rear passenger side tire blew” at 2:51 p.m., Idaho State Police said in a news release.

Police said the SUV rolled off the right shoulder and “came to a rest in a field” near milepost 83 in Elmore County.

Six people, including three adults and three juveniles, were in the SUV, according to police.

One child died from injuries at the scene, according to the release. Three people were flown by air ambulance to a local hospital, and two others were driven to the hospital by ground hospital, the release said.

Officials have not released the names of those involved.

Idaho State Police said they are continuing to investigate the Boise-area incident.
