Boise schools close, while some in Treasure Valley remain open after 5 inches of snow
With 5.2 inches of snow covering Boise through the early morning, many local schools decided to close their doors Wednesday.
The Boise and West Ada school districts announced early Wednesday that all classes would be canceled for the day.
The Boise School District also said all athletic events scheduled for Wednesday have been “canceled due to inclement weather.”
Kuna, Middleton, Nampa and Caldwell schools will remain open, according to their websites.
“Despite varied storm impacts across the valley, we’ve decided to keep schools open today,” the Nampa School District posted on social media. “As of our deadline this morning, the assessments of road conditions up to that time, as well as considering the latest weather data, we are confident in our ability to operate safely.”
Boise State University also canceled all in-person Wednesday classes.
The snow stopped in Boise just before 8:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The “back edge of heavy snow” passed through the Boise area at about 7:30 a.m. and began tapering around 8 a.m., the weather service said.
