A 66-year-old paddleboarder died after he likely drowned at Quinn’s Pond, the Boise Fire Department said.

The Fire Department and Boise Police Department responded to the 22-acre pond just west of downtown Boise’s West End around 4 p.m. Friday after witnesses reported the man went under the water and didn’t surface, a news release said. Boise officers went into the water immediately to look for him, and the Fire Department’s dive team continued to search.

By 5:20 p.m. the dive team had found the man, the release said. Paramedics and firefighters attempted to perform life-saving measures, and he was then taken to a nearby hospital, but he didn’t survive.

Authorities said the man likely drowned, and there were no signs of foul play. The Ada County Coroner’s Office was expected to release the man’s cause of death and provide any identifying information once his family is notified.
