Boise fire crews work to contain blazes near Lucky Peak Dam and Interstate 84
Local fire departments responded to a pair of small wildfires Wednesday morning.
The Boise Fire Department fought a grass fire at about 9:30 a.m. at Cost Less Storage, located at 8100 S. Eisenman Road south of Interstate 84.
“Upon arrival, crews found a prescribed burn that got out of control,” said Lynsey Amundson, Boise Fire Department spokesperson.
Crews were able to scale it back using a brush rig, a type of fire engine designed to assist with wildfires in hard-to-reach terrain. Amundson said no structures were damaged and no one reported injuries, and the burn was under control.
The Boise Fire Department also assisted the Bureau of Land Management in controlling a blaze located about 5 miles southeast of Boise near Lucky Peak Dam. The vegetation fire, named the Bonneville Fire, had reached 30 acres by the afternoon, according to a social media post from the BLM.
The agency said the fire should not affect traffic and should be contained by 6 p.m.
Boise fire crews were assisting the Bureau of Land Management with two brush rigs, one water tender and a battalion chief, according to officials.
Other units at the scene included four BLM engines, two Ada County brush trucks, one Mountain Home Rangeland Fire Protection unit, one dozer and one Hotshot crew.
