Update: Construction causes broken gas line, closes several streets in downtown Boise
Authorities are responding to a broken gas line in downtown Boise.
The gas line was cut by an excavator in the alley near 10th and Grove streets at around 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to a post from the Boise Fire Department on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Boise Police and Boise Fire departments responded to the area and have closed off 10th to 12th streets between Main and Grove streets, Boise police spokesperson Haley Williams told the Idaho Statesman by text.
Businesses and apartments inside the closure area have been evacuated, and the public has been asked to avoid the area while the gas line is repaired.
Several construction projects are occurring in the area, including the remodeling of The Sparrow, a 60-plus-room motel near the intersection of 10th and Grove streets, according to prior Statesman reporting. The repairs are expected to take a couple of hours as the fire department works with Intermountain Gas Company, the fire department’s post said.
