With Boise River flows nearing 5,800 cubic feet per second, several stretches of the Greenbelt are closed because of flooding.

River flows above 4,000 cfs can affect lower-lying sections of the Greenbelt, and flows could increase to as much as 6,500 cfs in the coming weeks, according to information from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Greenbelt users should be attentive near the river throughout the spring and obey posted signage, according to Parks and Rec.

“As the Boise River continues to rise, we are urging people to use caution on the Greenbelt and adhere to any closures that are in place,” Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway said in a news release. “The water is high, cold and moving fast. The temporary Greenbelt closures are necessary to keep everyone safe when the pathway is flooded like this.”

Here are the areas of the Greenbelt currently impacted by flooding:

A portion of the Bethine Church River Trail, a 1.6-mile unpaved nature trail located on the south side of the river along Parkcenter Boulevard, is experiencing pools of water, which has created muddy and hazardous conditions. The closure is in effect from mile marker 3.0 to 3.5, and signs have been placed along the closed section. A detour is in place through River Run Drive starting at mile marker 2.6.

A second detour is in place for flooding under the West Parkcenter Bridge that has closed a .25-mile long stretch. Greenbelt users should take Beacon Street to Leadville Avenue to avoid the closure, taking the crosswalk to cross Parkcenter Boulevard.

A .7-mile stretch along the north side of East Parkcenter Bridge near the Golda Harris Nature Preserve and Marianne Williams Park is flooded. The water is knee-high in places and should not be entered for safety reasons, according to Parks and Rec. A detour is in place over the East Parkcenter Bridge to the south side of the Greenbelt.

A live map of any Greenbelt closures, construction or detours can be found on the city’s website.
