Boise has finally made it: City is getting its own Monopoly game. You can help create it
Boardwalk? Park Place? Get out of here.
Make way for Bogus Basin and the Boise Greenbelt.
For almost a century, Monopoly has been the quintessential American board game — buy as much property as you can, build even more property on top of it, and try to squeeze as much cash out of your competitors as possible.
Now, Monopoly is coming to Boise, and you can get involved.
Top Trumps, manufacturer of Monopoly games under the multinational conglomerate Hasbro, announced in a news release Monday that it plans to release a Boise-specific version of Monopoly by October.
Boise will join the company of cities that have a Monopoly board designed after them, such as Chicago, Brooklyn and Kansas City.
The board will function like a typical game of Monopoly, but Boardwalk and Park Place — the two most expensive properties — will be replaced with Boise icons. Other board squares will be dedicated to Boise monuments, and the “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards will also be personalized to the city.
And Monopoly’s maker is asking for Boise residents’ input on what places should be included.
“We want to ensure that the Monopoly: Boise Edition is an accurate portrayal of what locals love about their city,” Aaron Green, a spokesperson for Top Trumps, said in the release. “So we would love for everyone to get on board and send us their recommendations of what they would like to see included.
“Everything is up for consideration. Bogus Basin, BSU Broncos, Camel’s Back Park, the Greenbelt; we want to know your Boise favorites that must be on the board – so please get involved!”
Until Oct. 1, those wishing to put their stamp on the game may email Boise@Toptrumps.com and provide feedback.
Bill Connors, president and CEO of the Boise Metro Chamber, hailed Monopoly’s decision to make a Boise-inspired board as a reflection of the city’s growing “vibrancy.”
“From the Greenbelt to the Foothills and everything in between,” Connors said, “let’s work together to make this game emblematic of what it means to live and work in the City of Trees.”
