CrossFit or hot dogs? Six jolly events to keep you busy on Christmas Eve and Day in Boise
Christmas is less than a week away. Whether you’re in Boise by yourself, or your whole family has descended upon the Treasure Valley and taken over the household, you may just need to get out of the house for a bit.
Fortunately, there are plenty of fun Christmas Eve and Day events around the Treasure Valley to mix things up around the holiday — if you’re willing to take the plunge outside under the possibility of a white Christmas in Boise.
Christmas Eve
Expo Idaho is hosting a light show that you can enjoy from the warmth of your car.
The drive-thru light show features over a million Christmas lights, and you can tune your car radio to a local station that synchronizes Christmas music with the lights around you.
The show is at 5610 N. Glenwood St. and costs $35 per car. If you can’t fit it in on Christmas Eve, you can purchase tickets every day through Jan. 1, aside from Christmas Day when the show is closed.
Hawgs and Dogs Hardcore Hot Dogs
Mother Earth Tap House in Boise will have special holiday hours on Christmas Eve from noon to 6 p.m.
Not only will you be able to grab a craft beer or two, but the Hawgs and Dogs Hardcore Hotdogs food truck will be on-site. The food truck brands itself as “specialty Craft Hotdogs and Sausages served with Biker flair and a side of edginess.”
The food truck will also be open from noon to 6 p.m. at Mother Earth, located at 406 S. 3rd St.
Are you looking to make some new friends in a cozy house setting? One Boise resident is hosting a pizza party at their house, and there’s only one requirement: to bring a side dish.
The event, located at 8774 W. Stirrup St., runs from 3 to 7 p.m. and is hosted by Jillian Aurora, owner of Goddess LLC, a Boise-based women’s empowerment organization.
“If you would like to stop by, please bring a snack/side of your choosing and a heart full of cheer to share,” Aurora writes on the event page. “Any type of salad or bread would be amazing! Or, non-food items are welcome too - we always need more firewood!”
Those interested can show up anytime between 3 and 7 p.m. and register ahead of time.
Get ahead of the curve and work off that Christmas Day dinner beforehand rather than afterward.
Audacious CrossFit, located at 8324 W. Vincent St., is hosting a class from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday. You can find out more information by calling (208) 579-2176 or emailing info@audaciouscrossfit.com.
Christmas Day
Idaho Botanical Garden’s Winter Garden aGlow is open Wednesday through Sunday until Dec. 31, so you’ve got plenty of chances, but what better time to experience over 600,000 Christmas lights than on Christmas day?
When the sun goes down, the garden lights up from 6 to 9 p.m., creating a sparkling wonderland.
Kids under four can enter for free. Tickets for children aged 4 to 12 and botanical garden members are $14, and adult tickets are $18. Tickets can be purchased online.
On Christmas Day, local guitarist Matt Roos will play acoustic Christmas songs at Bar365 in Garden City from 4-7 p.m.
“It will be Christmastime in the city! Join me for some jolly holiday tunes, or if you just need to get away for some Christmas cheer,” Roos writes on the event page. “I’ll be playing acoustic solo sets in the beautiful lobby bar (Bar365) at the Riverside.”
Bar365 is located inside the Riverside Hotel at 2900 W. Chinden Blvd.
