Law enforcement water teams were still scouring Lucky Peak Lake on Tuesday after a jet ski rider went missing Monday night near the Barclay Bay ramp.

Two people, including a 16-year-old boy, were riding a jet ski at 9 p.m. on Monday when they hit a wave and the boy fell off, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. He never resurfaced.

The jet ski driver jumped in to try to find the boy and others in a nearby boat searched as well, but they were unsuccessful, according to officials.

Neither person on the jet ski was wearing a life jacket, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Marine deputies arrived a short time later and attempted rescue dives until 11 p.m. At sunrise Tuesday, the marine deputies — along with Gene Ralston, an underwater search and recovery expert — resumed searching, according to Patrick Orr, Ada County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

The water in the area was “deep and choppy,” with water temperatures in the low 60s, Orr said.

“Barclay Bay ramp will be moving slow today,” the Lucky Peak Lake and Dam Facebook page posted on Tuesday. “Officials are engaged in recovery efforts following a tragic incident last night.”
