Will she seek re-election or won’t she? Here’s what Boise Mayor Lauren McLean says
Boise Mayor Lauren McLean says she will seek a second term in the City of Trees’ top post, although she said any campaigning remains many months away.
BoiseDev reported Monday that McLean said she will run in Boise’s next mayoral election in 2023. She is halfway through her first term.
McLean told the Idaho Statesman that, while she does plan on running again, she has not launched a campaign or begun the work of filing her candidacy, and that she remains focused on the day-to-day responsibilities of being mayor.
“I am focusing on the job that residents expect me to do,” she said Tuesday by phone.
She said that during the last half of her first term, she’ll continue focusing on strengthening Boise’s housing supply and ensuring that future generations can find a place to call home in the city.
McLean ascended to the position after defeating longtime incumbent David Bieter in a runoff election in December 2019 with 65% of the vote.
Thus far, no one else has announced an intent to challenge McLean in 2023.
