Northwest Boise could be getting a fire station at this location, if councilors give the OK
Residents in Northwest Boise could soon have a new fire station on their doorstep, if City Council members approve.
The council will consider buying 2.08 acres of land on the corner of West State Street and North Bogart Lane for $1.1 million for a new Fire State 13, according to a news release Friday. The need for a new station has been a widely discussed issue by local residents and community leaders.
The goal of the station will be to reduce response times in the area to five minutes, the release said.
The council is scheduled to consider the purchase when it meets at noon next Tuesday Oct. 26.
Construction on the new station could start as early as 2023.
“It is ideally situated to achieve the best fire coverage for our Northwest community while collaborating with our partner agencies to provide an effective and efficient response,” Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer said in the release.
It’s not the first time the city has announced plans for a fire station in Northwest Boise. City Hall had originally planned for a new fire station on Gary Lane in 2018, but the proposal was met with resistance by some neighbors who preferred that the land remain a park.
Should the city follow through on purchasing this new plot of land, the Gary Land parcel will be reassigned to the Parks and Recreation Department.
