Update: Picket Fire in Boise Foothills nearly contained, no structures have burned

The Picket Fire in the Boise Foothills grew to about 20 acres Friday evening, but the Bureau of Land Management said on Twitter at about 7 p.m. that containment was expected by 10 p.m. Friday.

Any active flames had been knocked down, the BLM said.

The Boise Fire Department tweeted that crews from Boise and the BLM made good progress quickly after several departments responded to the blaze at about 5 p.m. It started northeast of the Wildhorse Ranch subdivision, but no structures were ever threatened.

An official at Ada County dispatch told the Statesman that they had received several reports of the fire, but that it was in Boise County near Rocky Canyon Road. Ada County officials were standing by if needed.

On its Twitter feed, the BLM urged people to avoid the area if possible.

It’s not yet known how the fire ignited.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as needed.
