Boise feels 2nd-strongest aftershock since March quake. Idaho feels hundreds in 2 weeks
Another earthquake could be felt in Boise on Wednesday, shaking the area for a few seconds. The magnitude-4.4 quake was part of a large series of aftershocks that have hit Idaho since the 6.5 quake on March 31.
The shaking Wednesday was felt at approximately 6:20 p.m.
The epicenter was just north of Cape Horn, roughly 20 miles northwest of Stanley, according to Idaho Geological Survey Director Claudio Berti, and it was one of hundreds of aftershocks to be felt since the beginning of April.
“We know for sure since the 6.5 earthquake there have been hundreds of aftershocks related for sure,” said Berti, also the state geologist. “Some of them were bigger in magnitude; most of them are not felt.”
The United States Geological Society tweeted earlier Wednesday about a magnitude-3.6 tremor in the same area of Idaho.
According to Berti, these aftershocks are to be expected and will continue. This tied for the second-strongest aftershock since the 6.5 quake, with a magnitude-4.8 and another 4.4 occurring just hours after the big quake on March 31.
