Ada County has to reissue correct absentee ballots to about 5,000 voters
Nearly 5,000 incorrect ballots were mailed to Ada County voters for the May 19 primary election, which is being conducted strictly by mail, according to the Ada County Clerk’s Office.
“The Idaho Secretary of State’s office identified an error in a batch of ballots mailed to 4,949 Ada County voters,” according to a press release. “Affected voters received a ballot that did not match the ballot they had requested in the online absentee request system.”
The error was isolated to ballots mailed out on April 21. The voters have been identified and Ada County Elections will be reissuing the correct ballot.
“A batch process conducted last week by the Secretary of State’s Office to assist Ada County with the unprecedented number of online requests being submitted has been identified as the source,” according to the statement. “This was the only instance a batch process like this was used.”
Voters will still have time to receive and send their absentee ballot in time. All ballot request forms must be submitted online or received by county clerks by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. They must be received by county clerks’ offices by June 2. Election results will be announced the night of Tuesday, June 2.
“We apologize to all of the voters who were impacted by this error and thank them for their patience as we work to issue the correct ballot,” the clerk’s officer wrote in the statement.
