Want front-row seats to the X Games at Boise skate park? Here’s how to get tickets

For the last two years, thousands have flocked to Downtown Boise to watch skateboarders and BMX riders compete for a spot in the most prestigious extreme sports competition around. This summer, you could join the crowd.

The Boise X Games qualifier will take place at Rhodes Skate Park, 1555 W. Front St., on June 28 and 29. Fans can watch some of the action for free or spend $25 apiece on tickets that guarantee a spot in the stands all day Saturday, June 29.

Tickets go on sale online at xgames.cityofboise.org on May 14 at 10 a.m. In past years, the limited number of bleacher seats have sold out in minutes.

If you don’t snag a ticket, you can still watch the action. Bleacher seats are free on Friday, June 28, and fans are invited to stand-room areas around the park all weekend to watch competitors on several live-streaming screens.

Sixty-five athletes — including Boise skateboarders Dalton Beeson and Elliot Saxton — will compete for a spot in this year’s X Games, which runs Aug. 1 through 4 in Minneapolis.

The local qualifier drew a crowd of about 7,000 attendees in 2017, Parks and Recreation officials told the Statesman last year. In 2018, roughly 12,000 people showed up for the event.

You’ll also find food trucks, beer and wine vendors, a Family Fun Zone and a bike rodeo at the X Games qualifier festival. Boise officials have also teased more attractions.

“We are extremely excited to host this incredible event at Rhodes Skate Park again,” said Doug Holloway, Parks and Recreation director, in a news release about the qualifier. “In addition to the world class athletes who will be competing at Rhodes Skate Park, we’ll be announcing a new and inspiring addition to the event in the coming weeks that fans are going to love.”
