Two Garden City residents and their dogs escaped a house fire late Monday, but six cats in the house perished.

Boise Fire tweeted that the fire started around 11:25 p.m. in north Adams Street. Firefighters attempted to provide the cats with rescue breathing, but all of them died.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but accidental causes are suspected, according to Boise Fire.
