Boise’s Jewish community will hold a memorial service on Monday for the victims of Saturday’s synagogue shooting in Pennsylvania, according to a press release from the Chabad Jewish Center.

The memorial will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the center, 1803 S. Maple Grove Road in Boise. The public is welcome to attend.

According to the press release, “a number of community members, many of whom do not know the victims, felt that they must come together to pray for the victims and do something positive.”

Rabbi Mendel Lifshitz said in a separate newsletter Sunday that the event will include time for reflection, remembrance of the victims, prayers for the victims’ loved ones and support for fellow Idahoans.

“We are heartbroken and pained by the horrific attack that took place on our brothers and sisters in Pittsburgh,” the rabbi wrote. “This is an attack on all of us, and we grieve with the families who have lost loved ones and pray for the recovery of those who are injured.”

Lifshitz also said the center has been in touch with local law enforcement to review its own security.

“We have been assured that we are under no known additional risk. Boise Police (Department) has already added additional patrols to our facility,” Lifshitz wrote.
