Ada County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the Ada County Jail on Saturday, according to an Ada County Sheriff’s Office press release.

According to the release, the 40-year-old Garden City man, who had been in custody since July 9 on a charge of delivery of a controlled substance, was found unresponsive and not breathing around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The man was alone in the cell, though deputies check on inmates at least every half hour, according to officials. The man was seen alert just 25 minutes prior, the release says, and there’s no evidence of foul play.

Deputies say evidence collected so far points to a self-inflicted injury, though officials did not release any further details or the identity of the man pending notification of his family.

According to the release, deputies called for medical backup and began CPR immediately upon finding the unresponsive man. Responding paramedics were unable to revive him.
