Boise woman dies in head-on crash in Oregon

A Boise woman died in a head-on collision Sunday morning on U.S. 97 near Chemult, Ore., according to a press release from Oregon State Police.

Melissa Kay Gibson, 27, died at the scene of the accident, police said. According to the release, a 2015 Honda Pilot driven by Elizabeth A. Brown, 19, of Klamath Falls, Ore., drifted across the center line and struck Gibson’s vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Matrix, around 10:30 a.m.

Gibson’s passenger, 22-year-old Simona Arnautov, of Oregon City, Ore., was taken to Sky Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, officials said. Brown was also taken to Sky Lakes with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating fatigue as a possible contributing factor in the crash, which closed the highway for about 90 minutes.
