Two were injured in a crash involving a garbage truck and a car.

A garbage truck driver tried to steer out of the way of an oncoming car that veered into his lane on Emmett Road, but the vehicles collided, according to Idaho State Police.

The drivers of the two vehicles — Jeremy Dionne, 40, of Ontario, Ore., and Betty Walker, 86, of Caldwell — were transported to Treasure Valley hospitals.

The crash happened at about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday on Emmett Road, near the intersection with Purple Sage Road, northwest of Middleton.

Investigators say Dionne was driving north in a 2004 Autocar garbage truck, and Walker was driving south in a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica.

Walker’s vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, ISP says. Dionne tried to avoid a collision by crossing into the southbound lane. But the truck hit the passenger side of the Walker’s car.

Dionne, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell. Walker, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. The airbag in Walker’s vehicle deployed, ISP said.
