Idaho is adding two new license plates. Check out this ‘iconic’ new design
Need a new license plate in Idaho?
The Idaho Transportation Department is introducing two fresh designs, the agency announced Friday.
The new plates “highlight the state’s identity and support customer choice,” Britt Rosenthal, public information officer at the Idaho Transportation Department, said in the news release.
These aren’t the only new license plate designs unveiled recently.
In April, the Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles released a patriotic license plate design depicting an American flag in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.
How are Idaho license plates changing?
The updated Idaho Agriculture license plate features “a sunrise over farm fields, grazing cattle and iconic Idaho crops,” Rosenthal said.
Proceeds made from sales of the new farmland design support the Idaho Agriculture in the Classroom program, according to the release.
The words “Harvest the Future” can be seen along the bottom of the design.
The new agriculture-themed plate design costs $35 for the first year and $25 for each year after, Rosenthal told the Statesman via email.
What else is new?
Idaho is also introducing a new white-and-black license plate.
Rosenthal said the upgraded design is a “clean, modern option” for drivers with “high-contrast lettering for improved readability.”
According to Rosenthal, the high-contrast design will have an initial fee of $70 with a recurring $50 yearly cost.
When will new license plate designs be available?
Both new license plate designs will be available starting Wednesday, July 1, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.
“Both plates are available at county offices and through the Idaho Transportation Department’s DMV portal,” the agency said.
How much does it cost to register my vehicle in Idaho?
All Idaho license plates are available at DMV locations or online.
Registration costs depend on the vehicle type, weight, age and inspection requirements, as well as the county where you live, according to the DMV.
Registration and renewal costs for noncommercial vehicles — those weighing 8,000 pounds or less — can range from $24 to $140 for a standard Idaho license plate.
Personalized and specialty license plates — like the new agricultural design — require an additional annual fee.
It can cost $73 to $337 to register a commercial vehicle weighing more than 8,000 pounds, with costs affected by weight.
