Nampa to hold memorial service for Mayor Rick Hogaboam. Here are the details
A memorial service honoring the late Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam, who died earlier this month while speaking at an event in Eagle, is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. Doors open at 4 p.m.
The public is invited to attend and should park in the west parking lot closest to Idaho Center Boulevard, using Entry 1 to access the event, the city of Nampa said in a news release Friday. Family members, close friends, colleagues and dignitaries will enter from Franklin Boulevard and park in the south parking lot, using Entry 5.
The news release said guests will be screened by security and are not allowed to bring weapons inside. The city encouraged those who plan to attend to limit personal items to help screening move faster.
The service will be livestreamed on Nampa’s YouTube channel.
Hogaboam, 47, started experiencing a medical emergency at about 6:45 p.m. March 18 while he was speaking at a regional town hall hosted by the Treasure Valley Partnership, a coalition of local mayors and county commissioners, at Eagle City Hall. The Ada County Coroner’s Office said he died of cardiac tamponade.
Hogaboam was elected as the city’s 31st mayor in November after a career spanning local, county and state government. He was sworn into office Jan. 5.
The mayors and county commissioners who are part of the Treasure Valley Partnership said in a statement that they were “heartbroken” to have lost Hogaboam. They said he was an exemplary public servant and a dedicated family man.
A statement from the city of Nampa referred to the mayor as a “friend” to those who worked there.
“As we begin to mourn this unbelievable loss, please provide grace while we navigate the loss of not only our mayor, but also our friend,” the Nampa statement said.
