Idaho city named one of top 10 places to retire in the United States. Which one?

An Idaho city is one of the best places in the nation to spend your retirement, according to StorageCafe.

Choosing where to spend your retirement and the rest of your life is a major decision, with so many options around the United States, it can be hard to decide where to spend it.

The online marketplace for finding and managing self-storage units recently ranked the top 10 retirement destinations in the United States, based on housing affordability, health care, weather and other factors.

“Choosing where to spend your next chapter isn’t just about palm trees or proximity to a golf course anymore — it’s about peace of mind,” StorageCafe contributor Anca Lenta wrote in a Dec. 10 article. “Today’s retirees are looking for something deeper: financial resilience, reliable health care and a sense of purpose that keeps life rich and rewarding”

Here’s which Gem State city made the list, and why:

What’s the best city to retire in Idaho?

According to the StorageCafe study, Boise is one of the top 10 places to spend your retirement thanks to its low crime rates and “prosperous retirement scene.” The study put Boise in their no. 10 spot.

About 15% of Boise’s estimated 237,963 residents are 65 or older, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Boise residents have a life expectancy of 78.8 years, the study said, with a cost of living that hovers slightly above the national benchmark.

The average Boise home was valued at $485,649 as of Monday, Dec. 29, according to real estate website Zillow.

“Boise’s mix of outdoor recreation and mountain scenery offers a compelling lifestyle for retirees seeking a Western backdrop for their golden years,” StorageCafe said.

Boise isn’t the only Idaho city that’s considered a top spot to spend your golden years.

Forbes named Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, one of the best places to enjoy your retirement in 2025, the Idaho Statesman previously reported.

“Mountains and water, including 25-mile-long Lake Coeur d’Alene stretching to the south, make this city 300 miles east of Seattle a popular location for fishing, boating, swimming, hiking and skiing,” Forbes senior contributor William P. Barrett wrote in an October article.

Coeur d’Alene is a little less than 300 miles from Boise.
