Thanksgiving brings multiple restaurant and grocery closures, of course, as well as no everyday services. If your trash collection typically takes place on a Thursday, Thanksgiving will cause changes to the schedule if you live in Ada county and Boise. Here’s what you need to know.

Trash collection on Thursday will be late

Trash collection in Boise and much of Ada County is run by Republic Services and Hardin Sanitation, according to Ada County Landfill’s website. Republic Services trash collection is being delayed by one day, according to their city of Boise website.

The Hardin Sanitation website shows they will delay their services by one day as well. Any collection services that were on Thursday are moved to Friday; likewise, any services on Friday are moved to Saturday.

You can find your trash collection schedule here at Republic Services collection day map.

Other Boise, Ada services closed on Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving Day is a postal holiday, so mail will not be delivered on Thursday. Valley Regional Transit buses are not running on Thanksgiving either, according to its website.

However, the VRT has created extended hours on Friday and Saturday nights between Nov. 29 – Dec. 28., and will provide rides on routes 3, 7, 9, and 17. The map on their website shows additional information for questions.

While most Boise and Ada city services close on Thanksgiving, emergency services including those at St. Luke’s will remain open.
