Charlie from Emmett is the cutest dog in the Boise area, according to voters

The voters have come to a decision, after several weeks of searching for and voting on the cutest dog in the Boise area. The winner is …

*drum roll*

Charlie, the 2-year-old Border Terrier mix from Emmett.

His owner, Mark Potter, said he rescued him after he was abandoned by his previous family. He said he was lucky enough to find him online at a rescue facility in Caldwell, Texas last year.

He and Charlie enjoy running and playing ball, and they also eat dry roasted peanuts together. Potter is in Beijing, China, and was unable to be interviewed about the win, but he has said he misses Charlie very much.

When entering his dog in the contest, Potter shared the story of how he and his father picked up Charlie. He said that: “For some bizarre reason, the rescue facility in Texas had named him, ‘Doughnut.’ Once we met his delivery van in Boise at midnight, we made a quick trip to WinCo. My father went inside and I figured I’d give ‘Doughnut’ his first walk in Idaho.”

Potter said Charlie’s first taste of Idaho was a bit of a surprise, but a fitting homage to his temporary rescue name.

“I leashed him and we bailed out of the vehicle,” he said. “And he proceeded to consume a doughnut that someone had left on the parking lot. I missed it due to the darkness. So Charlie’s first taste of Idaho was a doughnut in a parking lot.”
