Meridian man, child killed in head-on collision with semi-truck on Interstate 84

Two people died and three others were injured in a Saturday evening crash on Interstate 84 near Glenns Ferry, according to an Idaho State Police news release.

Eighteen-year-old Jorge A. Ramirez, of King Hill, was driving westbound on the interstate at mile marker 118 in a semi-truck when he failed to stop for slowing traffic around 6:30 p.m., police said. Ramirez crossed the center line, striking a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven eastbound by Brittany R. Jenkins, 28, of Meridian.

The Chrysler then hit two other vehicles: a 2020 Hyundai Kona, driven by 47-year-old Burt L. Jackson, of Douglas, Alaska; and a 2015 Volvo semi-truck hauling a trailer, driven by 29-year-old Gurprett Singh, of South Richmond Hill, New York.

Twenty-seven-year-old Austin A. Jenkins, of Meridian, and a juvenile died of their injuries at the scene. Both were passengers in Brittany Jenkins’ minivan. Brittany Jenkins and two other juveniles were taken by ground ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Police did not say whether Ramirez, Jackson or Singh sustained any injuries in the crash.

Idaho State Police is investigating the crash, which closed lanes for six hours on Saturday.
