Boise Fire responds to construction site wall collapse; one worker hospitalized
Boise Fire crews rescued a worker after a construction site wall collapsed near St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in downtown Boise on Thursday morning.
The accident, near Jefferson and First streets, injured just the one person. Boise Fire spokeswoman Char Jackson said the worker was not trapped, but because he was in a hole, crews used an on-site construction crane to hoist the worker out on a backboard.
Ada County dispatchers said they received the report of the accident at 7:52 a.m. Thursday. The worker has since been transported to a hospital.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said it did respond to the scene.
The worker’s name has not been disclosed.
The construction site is being run by Layton Construction, and the company issued the following statement on Thursday:
“We are aware of the incident that occurred shortly before 8 a.m. today on our construction site at St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center. Our safety team is working closely with officials to investigate the cause of the accident. Based on the investigation, proper measures will be taken to ensure a safe working environment. Our thoughts are with the individual who was injured.”
