UPDATE: Missing Idaho man who didn’t return from fishing trip has been found safe

UPDATE (9:30 p.m., Feb. 5): Matthew “Marty” Fonseca has been found and is safe, according to Meridian Police Department Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

Police are searching for a missing Meridian man who left on a fishing trip last week and has not returned, according to Meridian Police Department Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

In an email, Basterrechea told the Statesman that Matthew “Marty” Fonseca, 44, was last seen by his roommate, Douglas Bryson, on Jan. 29. Bryson contacted police on Sunday to report Fonseca missing. Police said Fonseca has missed work, which Bryson said is out of character.

According to a post Bryson made on Facebook, Fonseca was supposed to be going kayak fishing at the Owyhee Reservoir in eastern Oregon. It’s not clear whether Fonseca ever made it there.

Police are looking for Fonseca’s white 2001 Ford Explorer with Idaho license plate 1A267FW. Bryson said there usually is a tan kayak on top of the vehicle.

In his Facebook post, Bryson said Fonseca also fishes at several Boise-area spots, including Swan Falls Dam, Arrowrock Reservoir and Lucky Peak. The post had been shared more than 800 times by Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone who may have information on Fonseca’s whereabouts is urged to contact Meridian Police Department at 208-888-6678.
